Young Authors Day 2018
Friday, May 4 was an exciting day at MVCS. It was our Annual Young Authors Day. This year students in grades K2 - 5 and Senior English each created their own children's book. Middle school students contributed to a class poetry book. We had all students K2-8 and half of our seniors participating. They day was a lot of fun.
Mrs. Douglas and her K2 students started the day off with a celebration/reception with their parents. We have found it works best for these very little ones to "do their own thing." The activities for the other grades started around 10 with our first group session. My TAs had divided all participating students into groups for each of the three sessions. In the first session we were able to have seniors leading the majority of the groups. In the other sessions it was usually an eighth grader who lead the group. Because all of the groups ended at different times, we had a combined recess time for the students as they finished up. We were able to get two group sessions in before lunch. After lunch we had yet another group session followed by the elementary meeting in the library for an illustrator visit. We were pleased to have Alyssa Melhorn join us. She has illustrated quite a few children's books. It was great to hear her testimony of how God directed her to become an illustrator. Alyssa is the niece of Mrs. Baxter, our fourth grade teacher.
